The Master Becomes a Servant

요한복음 13:3-16

Jesus knew that the time had come that He should leave this world and go to the Father. He loved His own people in the world, He loved them to the end.
When He loves us He loves all the way. His love is not. "well, if you do this, I will love you. If you don''''''''t I wouldn''''''''t love you." He is different from us. It''''''''s unconditional.
To an end,...... , all the way......
When the prodigal son came home, did the father say, "What? You have spent the money I gave you in wild living. You devoured that money with harlots? Hey, servants, kick him out of here."
No! The father hugged him and said, "My son, welcome home. I''''''''ve been waiting for you. Let''''''''s have a party. Let us be glad and celebrate." That''''''''s father''''''''s heart.

And during dinner, the devil already put into Judas'''''''' heart to betray Jesus. How could the devil put that thought -betray Jesus- in Judas'''''''' heart. Through his thought. Judas wanted gain power through money. He was greedy, the reason Judas the betrayer followed Jesus was because of money.
The Bible says, "Judas was a thief, as keeper of the money bag, he used to steal money from the money bag what was put in."
Your heart or thought is a door. Through that herat or thought enemy can come in. When we have an anger, hatred, greed and fear in your heart, these can be your strongholds. Through these strongholds devil can come in. It''''''''s the opening door. That''''''''s why the Bible says, "Don''''''''t get angry, don''''''''t hate your neighbors, don''''''''t be greedy, Do not fear.“
Judas was so disappointed because Jesus said that He will be crucified on the cross. That''''''''s the reason Judas sold Jesus for thirty silver coins, he could get more money but he wanted to treat Jesus like a slave. Thirty silver coins were the price of one adult slave. In Old Testament Joseph''''''''s brother sold him for twenty silver coins because he was only a boy. (Genesis 37:28)

Let''''''''s go back to scripture, Now, Jesus is thinking about His crucifixion, His heart was exceedingly sorrowful. But the disciples were fighting over the seats, over the position. Whenever they are together, they fight all the time, "who is greater?"
"Hey, you guys, shut up! stop it" "When''''''''re you gonna grow up? You are all childish."
He didn''''''''t say anything like that. He just got up, took off His garments and wrapped a towel around His waist. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash their feet and wipe them with that towel. Do you want to be a leader? Do you want to be a head. There''''''''s nothing wrong with being a leader or a head. But you have to follow His way, His principle. What''''''''s His principle?
Be a servant, Be the last. Humble yourself. Then He will make you the first. He will make you a head.
When He came to Peter, he said to him, "Lord, are you washing my feet? How can you do that? No, I won''''''''t let you."
Why didn''''''''t Peter let Jesus wash his feet? Because that''''''''s servant''''''''s job. In Jewish custom, the servants wash guests'''''''' feet.
Jesus replied, "You don''''''''t understand what I am doing now but later you will understand." Then Simon Peter said, "No, you will never wash my feet."
Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no part with me."
Peter thought, “I don''''''''t know what it is but it must be something good.”
Simon Peter replied, "Then Lord, not just my feet but my hands and my head also."
Jesus answered, "He who had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean but not all of you." Because He knew who would betray Him.

When He had finished washing their feet, He put on his garments and asked them,
"Do you understand what I have done for you? You call me ''''''''Teacher and Lord,'''''''' you''''''''re right, that''''''''s what I am.
Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another''''''''s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
Jesus showed the humility and servanthood in action. He said, "Son of man did not come to be served but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many"
His leadership is servanthood leadership.
We know what love is, we know what faith is. We probably have heard that more than hundred times.
There are 4 types of love. Agape is God''''''''s love and Eros is sexual love and Phileo is this and Stolke is that. But what we need is demonstration not explanation.
Jesus said, "You know that the kings over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them. and they exercise authority over them. But not so with you.
Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant and whoever wants to be first must be your slave.
I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master and no messenger is greater than the one who sent him. Now you know these things, if you do them, you will be blessed."
Dear my brothers and sisters, "Don''''''''t be afraid to serve someone."
Jesus is saying even today, "For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.“
Jesus was the Son of the living God but he came to this world and he did not hesitate to serve others.
The master became a servant.

종이 되신 주님

요한복음 13:3-16

예수께서 자기가 세상을 떠나 아버지께로 돌아가실 때가 이른 줄 아시고 세상에 있는 자기의 사람들을 사랑하시되 끝까지 사랑하시니라. 주님은 우리를 사랑하시되 끝까지 사랑하셨습니다. 그 분의 사랑은, “당신이 이것을 하면 내가 당신을 사랑할 것이고 그렇지 않으면 당신을 사랑하지 않을 것이다.” 가 아닌 무조건적인 끝까지...... 입니다. 탕자가 돌아왔을 때 아버지가, “뭐? 내 돈을 다 탕진했다고? 창기들과 함께 흥청망청 먹어 치웠다고? 여봐라, 이놈을 당장 끌어내라.” 고 했나요? 아닙니다. 오히려 그를 끌어안으며, “아들아 잘 왔다. 내가 너를 기다렸다. 우리가 기뻐하고 즐거워하자.” 이것이 아버지의 마음입니다.

저녁 먹는 중에 마귀가 벌써 가룟 유다의 마음에 예수님을 팔 생각을 넣었는데 어떻게 마귀가 유다의 마음에 그 생각을 넣었을까요? 바로 그의 생각을 통해서입니다. 유다는 돈 욕심이 많은 사람이었고 그가 예수님을 따른 목적은 돈 때문이었습니다. 예수님을 통해서 금력을 잡겠다는 생각이 그를 지배했습니다. 우리의 마음은 혹은 생각은 문인데 그 생각을 통해서 마귀가 들어온 것입니다. 성경은 말씀하길, “저는 도적이라 돈궤를 맡고 거기 넣는 것을 훔쳐감이러라.”(John 12:6) 여러분의 우리에게 분노나 미움, 욕심이나 두려움이 있을 때 그것이 우리의 stronghold (견고한 진)가 됩니다. 이 견고한 진을 통해서 원수들이 침입하는 것입니다. 그러므로 성경이 말씀하길, “노하지 말라, 네 이웃을 미워하지 말라. 탐욕을 버리라. 두려워하지 말라”고 한 것입니다. 내 마음에 탐욕이나 분노, 미움이 자리 잡고 있으면 이것이 마귀에게 틈을 주는 열린 문이 됩니다.

예수께서 자신이 십자가에서 죽을 것이라고 하자 가룟 유다는 몹시 실망하고 예수님을 노예의 값인 은 삼십 개를 받고-더 받을 수 있음에도 불구하고- 팝니다. 은 삼십은 당시 성인 노예의 몸값이었는데 자신의 꿈이 좌절되자 예수님을 노예로 취급한 것입니다. 요셉은 소년이었기 때문에 은 이십에 팔렸던 것입니다(창 37:28).

본문으로 돌아가, 예수께서는 십자가에 달리실 것과 아버지께로 갈 때가 가까웠음을 알고 깊은 생각 가운데 있는데, 마음이 심히 고민되고 죽을 것 같은 지경에 이르렀는데 제자들이 하는 짓이라곤, “누가 더 크냐, 누가 더 높은 자리에 앉을 것인가? 에 대해 다투고 있습니다. 예수님께서는, “아. 너희들 언제 철들래? 한심하다 한심해!” 라고 하셨나요? 아닙니다. 이런 말씀을 아니하고 묵묵히 자리에서 일어나 겉옷을 벗고 수건을 가져다가 허리에 두르시고 대야에 물을 담아 제자들의 발을 씻기시고 발을 닦으시기 시작합니다.

여러분 지도자가 되길 원하십니까? 머리가 되길 원하십니까? 지도자가 되거나 머리가 되고자 하는 자체가 나쁜 것은 아닙니다. 그러나 중요한 것은 그분의 방법을, 그분의 원리를 따라야 한다는 것입니다.
그분의 원리는 무엇입니까? 섬기는 자가 되는 것입니다. 나중이 되어야 하는 것입니다. 낮아져야 하는 것입니다. 그럴 때 그분께서 나를 높여주시고 머리가 되게 하시는 것입니다. 예수님께서 베드로에게 오셨을 때 베드로는, “주께서 내 발을 씻기시나이까? 그렇게 할 수 없습니다.” 라고 말합니다. 베드로는 왜 예수께서 자기의 발을 씻지 못하게 했을까요? 그것은 발 씻기는 일이 하인의 일이기 때문입니다. 유대인의 관례에는 손님이 오면 종들이 손님들의 발을 씻깁니다. 예수께서 베드로에게, “나의 하는 것을 네가 이제는 알지 못하나 이 후에는 알리라” 고 하자 베드로는 예수님께 말하길, “안됩니다, 절대 그렇게 할 수 없습니다.” 예수님께서, “내가 너를 씻기지 아니하면 네가 나와 상관이 없느니라.” 고 하자 베드로는 “뭔지는 모르지만 하여튼 좋은 것일 거야” 라고 생각하며 주님께 말하길 “그러면 내 발뿐 아니라 내 손과 머리도 씻겨 주옵소서.” 그러자 예수께서는, “이미 목욕한 자는 발밖에 씻을 필요가 없느니라. 너희는 깨끗하나 다는 아니니라” 고 하십니다. 이는 누가 자기를 팔 자인지 아셨기 때문입니다. 저희 발을 씻기신 후에 옷을 입으시고 이르시되, “너희가 나를 선생이라 또는 주라 하니 너희 말이 옳도다. 내가 그러하다. 내가 주와 선생이 되어 너희 발을 씻겼으니 너희도 서로 발을 씻기는 것이 옳으니라. 내가 너희에게 행한 것 같이 너희도 행하게 하려 하여 본을 보였노라.” 예수께서는 겸손과 섬김을 행함으로 보여주셨습니다. 주님은 섬기러 오셨다고 했습니다. “인자가 이 땅에 온 것은 섬김을 받으려 함이 아니라 도리어 섬기려 하고 자기 목숨을 많은 사람의 대속물로 주려함이니라.”

주님의 리더십은 섬기는 리더십입니다. 우리는 사랑에 대해서, 믿음에 대해서 백 번도 더 들었을 것입니다. 사랑에는 네 가지가 있는 데 아가페는 하나님의 사랑이고 에로스는 이성간, 필레오는 이것이고 스톨케는 저것이다. 그러나 우리에게 필요한 것은 설명이 아닌 시범입니다. 주님은 또 말씀하시길, “이방의 집권자들이 저희를 임의로 주관하고 그 대인들이 저희에게 권세를 부리는 줄을 너희가 알거니와..... 너희는 그렇지 아니하니..너희 중에 누구든지 크고자 하는 자는 너희를 섬기는 자가 되고 너희 중에 으뜸이 되고자 하는 자는 너희 종이 되어야 하리라. 내가 진실로 너희에게 이로노니 종이 상전 보다 크지 못하고 보냄을 받은 자가 보낸 자보다 크지 못하니 너희가 이것을 알고 행하면 복이 있으리라. 여러분, 섬기기를 두려워하지 마십시오. 주님은 오늘도 우리에게 말씀하십니다. 누구든지 자기를 높이는 자는 낮아지겠고 자기를 낮추는 자는 높아지리라. 예수님은 살아 계신 하나님의 아들이셨지만 이 땅에 오셨고 남을 섬기는데 망설이지 않으셨습니다.
주님께서 종이 되셨습니다.
